With the assumption of 80 years life expectancy, how many times do we go through dramatic life changes? Not focusing on childhood or teenage, first time it is graduating high school. Then for many it's entering college. At that time we enter completely new world, quite insecure and without annoying but so comforting parental protection.
Later we get a first job and a (first) marriage followed by a first child. Each of those experiences opens lots of new opportunities and brings us lots of experiences. There are many funny and not that funny stories every person in his 30s can tell about entering corporate world or becoming a parent. Those who have positive attitude and believe in success get onto the "winning" side. Which is not easy. Simply because when we start a new experience we simply don't yet know the rules of the game and in most cases refuse to listen to other people who have already been through that and can share a lot.
Time passes by and we get kids grown up. After 15-20 years of professional experience many feel the need to change career. Statistically about 50% of marriages worldwide do not work because two people in a couple often grow into different directions over years. So many face the need to make a sharp move on this front as well. And this is exciting and scary at the same time because at this stage of life quite often we tend to prefer convenience to the jump into unknown.
Those dramatic life changing experiences keep approaching us when we retire or move to different places or countries...
I believe that every change should be seen as a challenge and an opportunity at the same time. Change knocks our door when there's a need. When status quo and stability become less important than getting into a new adventure. Of course it's difficult. Of course it's scary. But I got one interesting observation - after the step is made, it's never as difficult as we thought it would be before! For a simple reason - after making the first step we start moving forward.
The attitude is very important. If you feel that you've been forced to make the change, the chances are low that you'll ever be happy with it. Thus, I think it's quite practical to sense the time when the change is approaching and ... Just Do It!
Knowing that it will:
1. Bring you out of your comfort zone. And maybe for quite some time. But it will pass!
2. Change you as a person because you will acquire new experiences.
3. Contribute to your Development. And we all know that when the development stops, stagnation starts. And stagnation is the road to death. Mental or physical.
4. Get you Success! With all sorts of new experiences, positive attitude and support from other people you will FLY HIGH!
